Deerfield Illinois Real Estate
First known as Leclair when it was settled in 1835, Deerfield was later named "Deerfield" after settler John Millen's home town of the same name in Massachusetts, as well as for the plentiful deer that roamed the area. Located in both Lake and Cook counties, the village is home to over 18,000 residents, and is one of Chicago's predominant North Shore suburbs, just 21 miles from Chicago's Loop. Deerfield, Illinois real estate offers some of the best properties in Chicagoland.

Although Deerfield is a petite community with a small-town ambiance, business is plentiful here in Deerfield. Situated near the Lake Cook and Waukegan Roads business corridors, Deerfield has a healthy commercial base, including opportunities for retail shopping. The Village sports the recently renovated Deerbrook Shopping Mall, the renovated Deerfield Center, Deerfield Square, Cadwell Corners (named after Jacob B. Cadwell, who settled the area) and Lake Cook Plaza. This is a prestigious award for government units whose comprehensive annual financial reports meet the highest standards in government accounting and financial reporting. 2004 was also the 14th consecutive year in which Deerfield received an award for Distinguished Budget Presentation for its annual budget.

If you've got children, you'll be thrilled to learn that the education available in Deerfield is top-notch. Deerfield High School, for example, is one of the top public schools in the state. Named for Ravinia Park, where seniors graduate, the program allows seniors apply early to four schools, meet with admissions officers from over 40 universities and colleges, and either receive acceptance or a deferral.

But in all of its present successes, Deerfield doesn't forget its history. The Deerfield Historical Society ensures that residents are reminded of the early days of their beloved village and the Society guarantees that those memories will be passed on to future generations of Deerfield. The Society's headquarters are located in the Historic Village, which includes five historic buildings. Central to the Historic Village is the Caspar Ott Log House. Built in 1837, the house is considered the oldest building in the county. One of the most popular buildings in the Village is the Little Red School House, a replica of a 19th-century one-room school. Each year fourth grade school children from District 109 conduct class in the Little Red School House as part of their history program.
